Red Corn Tortillas (Frozen)

These beautiful red tortillas are made fresh in Kalihi, from Heirloom corn imported from Mexico.

RAIZ tortillas are made from dried heirloom corn, using a mesoamerican process called nixtamalization that removes the kernel's tough outer skin, making it easier to cook and make into masa. Bolita Belatove corn was resurrected from near-extinction in Oaxaca’s central valleys, making it one of the rarest corn varietals in Mexico. It’s density produces a strong and elastic tortilla with a rich and distinctly nutty flavor profile — a perfect match for chicken mole or simplistic with a nice aromatic melty-cheese.
